Think of it this way—a bicycle will get you from A to B, but so will a Lamborghini. The difference lies in the performance and refinement.
Our PAR package provides exceptional standard lawn care, delivering fantastic results on its own. However, incorporating Top Dressing & Over-Seeding offers additional benefits:
For those looking for specialized treatments, we offer solutions for Leatherjacket and Chafer Grub control, fungicide applications, and water retention treatments. Issues such as Red Thread and drought stress are common during summer, and proactive treatment ensures your lawn remains in peak condition year-round.
Scarification and Verti-cutting, performed in both spring and autumn, deliver outstanding results in both aesthetics and overall lawn health. Even professional golf courses schedule at least two dedicated maintenance periods per year to achieve their pristine standards.
Ultimately, the choice depends on your goals for your lawn. If you’d like to explore the best options for your specific needs, we’d be happy to provide a free quote and lawn analysis. Get in touch today by clicking the link below!
Our annual lawn care package includes five scheduled treatments throughout the year, complemented by essential mechanical treatments. We tailor our weed control approach based on the specific weeds present, utilizing a range of targeted solutions. Additionally, we apply both granular and folia feeds.
Greenkeeper Lawn Care are sports turf specialists, dedicated to maintaining and enhancing high-quality playing surfaces for golf courses, sports fields, and other professional turf areas. With expert care and precision, we ensure optimal turf health, performance, and longevity.
Fertilizing the lawn enhances its vigor and helps prevent weeds and moss from taking hold. For optimal effectiveness, apply fertilizer when the soil is moist or before anticipated rainfall. However, it is important to note that fertilizer production requires significant energy. To minimize environmental impact, use only the necessary amount to maintain a healthy lawn.
Before applying chemical treatments, consider whether weeds can be managed through non-chemical methods, such as manual removal. If these approaches are not practical, chemical control may be necessary. Early identification and prompt removal of unwanted plants can help prevent widespread infestations and reduce long-term management challenges.
It is recommended to wait at least 2 to 3 days before mowing after applying a weed control treatment. This allows a minimum of 24 hours for the broadleaf weed control to fully circulate through the plant’s vascular system. Mowing too soon may prevent the herbicide from being effectively absorbed, reducing its effectiveness.
Lawn aeration is the process of perforating the soil with small holes to allow air, water, and nutrients to penetrate the grassroots. This practice helps alleviate soil compaction, which can restrict root growth and reduce the lawn’s ability to absorb essential nutrients.
Scarification should be carried out at least once a year to remove any organic matter such as thatch and moss formed around the base of your lawn. It also helps tidy up lateral growth. Thatch is your lawn’s upper layer that consists of decaying leaves and other plant materials, suffocating the roots.
Vert-cutting digs deeper than aerators and helps remove excess thatch and organic material around the plant's crown area. One of the most significant benefits of Vert-cutting is that it helps remove thatch build-up so your turf can absorb fertilizer and nutrients better.
Our annual lawn care plan includes five treatments per year, along with specialized machine processes. These treatments are scheduled seasonally to ensure optimal lawn health throughout the year. We will provide approximately seven days' notice before each visit, allowing you sufficient time to mow your lawn a few days in advance. After completing the treatment, our technician will provide you with tailored aftercare guidelines, including recommended practices and precautions. All waste generated during the process will be collected and removed, leaving your lawn clean and well-maintained.
We begin by scarifying your existing lawn to remove thatch and improve airflow to the soil. Next, we perform a soil exchange, applying a high-quality topsoil to enhance the growing environment. We then over-seed the area with premium Fescue grass seed (Red & Chewings) and apply a granular feed to support healthy growth.
The expected turnaround time for this process is approximately 4 to 8 weeks. We highly recommend this method over turf, as it promotes stronger, more sustainable lawn development.

The dreaded Leatherjacket. Leatherjackets have elongated tubular bodies, up to 30mm long and are greyish brown. They have no legs or obvious head. Lawns develop patches where the grass turns yellowish brown and often dies. This can be distinguished from similar effects caused by lawn diseases or adverse growing conditions by lifting the affected turf and finding leatherjackets in the surface layers of the soil.
Leatherjackets may also be revealed in lawns by soaking with water and covering with material impervious to light, such as black polythene. The following day if leatherjackets are the problem, large numbers of grubs should be found on the lawn surface under the cover.
We can treat this issue. See Chafer Grub section for treatments.
Chafer grubs are creamy coloured, about 15mm (0.6”) in length with distinct legs (unlike vine weevils). Chafer beetles emerge from lawns and lay eggs, which hatch into grubs feeding. They burrow deeper for winter and lie dormant before surfacing in spring to emerge as beetles.
Biological control: You can buy pathogenic nematodes, usually Heterorhabditis bacteriophora, which attack the larvae by infecting them with a fatal bacterial disease. These microscopic animals can be watered into the lawn when the ground is moist and soil temperature range between 12-20ºC (55-68ºF).
We can help eradicate this pest using nematodes. Beneficial nematodes kill the insects and pests in your lawn by entering their bodies through any openings that they find, or by boring through the body wall. Once they have done this, the nematodes release their unique bacteria that infects and kills the insect within 36-48 hours.
There are numerous Lawn Diseases and Disorders that can affect grass. The picture you see here is Red-Thread Laetisaria fuciformis common on swards of low fertility, especially late Summer and Autumn, Fescues and Ryegrass particularly susceptible. We can spray for this. Dedicate is a contact and systemic fungicide for use in managed amenity turf at any time of the year. Anthracnose. Anthracnose is caused by a fungus and can strike at different times of the year, but can be managed when it occurs. This is a small list of some other diseases you may find.
All of these turf diseases and more can arrive on your lawn at different times of the year and with different degrees of severity. Although any turf disease or disorder can be looked at like the end of the world, it's not. Many treatments are available on the market to help aid these problems. If you think you have any of these then please get in touch. We can help you.
Hydrophobic soil occurs when a waxy residue builds up on the soil particles resulting in it repelling water rather than absorbing it. It is most common in sandy soils, dried out potting mix and soils containing unrotted organic matter. Wetting agents are a great quick fix but will not resolve the issue long term. Wetting agents work by breaking down waxy coatings as well as breaking the surface tension in the water making it easier to penetrate the soil.
Knowing more about your lawns growth pattern will help you sustain a healthy and lush lawn. Obviously soil content causes a variation in growth. Also things like drainage issues. Do you suffer from saturation in the winter or drought stress during the summer months. Shade causes less growth. Tall trees may be blocking sunlight. The list can go on. We can help you with these issues at Greenkeeper Lawn Care. Knowing the basic growth pattern will give you timing help, for example, when to seed, when to water, mowing etc. When you mow we always suggest little and often. This will help promote new growth. Feeding your lawn at the right times with the right granular fertilisers will also help promote growth. There are so many things you can do. Another great reason for having a professional greenkeeper to take care of this.
No question is ever silly and every day is a school day.
This chart will help you understand timings for your lawn care, weeding and dare we say..... pest control. Using this as a guide will help you understand issues you may be having and it will also help you with timing on jobs you carry out in your garden.
