The idea is to give you an example of what you would be looking at on a monthly basis. Remember, always be sure about what you wish to achieve from your lawn. Our specialist greenkeeper will always give you a very realistic opinion of what is going on, what you could get to and the process you are likely to go through.
BOGEY £11.25 per month
PAR £20.48 per month
BIRDIE £28.73 per month
EAGLE £34.57 per month
HOLE IN 1 £43.57 per month
Going from a Bogey package to a Hole in One package speaks for itself. Standard lawn care will still always give you a fantastic lawn. Please don't feel like it wouldn't. A pushbike will always get you from A to Z, But then so will a Lamborghini. See where we are going with this! It is up to you how much you want from lawn care. You will always have a good lawn, just to how good is what we are offering here. Firstly, a PAR package is classed as standard lawn care. Again, the results are fantastic from this alone. Top Dressing & Over- Seeding are very beneficial for many reasons. Here are two main reasons. 1: Soil exchange with a sandy loam based soil to help your pH levels. Also, to help sustain a good nutrition value through your root structure. 2: This will help aid any poor growth pattern and give you a better, finer, healthier leaf coverage. Specialist treatments include, Leatherjacket control, Chafer Grub Control, Fungicide treatment and Water Retention. Red Thread is common during the summer season. Drought stress is also common during the summer season. We all dread seeing the Cranefly landing on our lawns. A specialist treatment on your package is a positive insurance policy. Bringing us back to the Lamborghini! The results you will get from scarifying and or Verti-cutting in two seasons (Spring & Autumn) is outstanding on different levels. Cosmetically & for your lawns health. Most golf courses have at least 2 maintenance weeks in their working year. Both season based. We don't need to explain the results I'm sure, but the benefits and standards you will get are very high. It all depends on what you're wanting to achieve with your lawn.

Our annual lawn care package consists of 5 treatments throughout the year. Plus two mechanical treatments. Aeration & Scarification. We use different types of weed control depending on the weeds you have. We use granular feeds as well as foliar feeds to aid in your lawns growth.
Feeding the lawn will increase vigour and help prevent weeds and moss from establishing. Apply fertilisers when the soil is moist or when rain is expected, however it's important to know that fertilisers use a lot of energy to make. Using the minimum fertiliser required to keep your lawn in shape is best for the environment.
First, consider whether you can control the weeds using non-chemical means, such as digging out. Where these methods are not feasible, chemical controls may be needed. If you choose to eradicate these plants early, identification and prompt removal can alleviate large-scale problems.
You should wait at least 2 to 3 days before you mow after weed control treatment. This is because it takes at least 24 hours for broadleaf weed control to translocate throughout the vascular system of the plant. If you cut the grass too soon, you’re not letting the herbicide get into the plant.
Aeration is the process of inserting small holes in the ground with the aim of improving drainage to prevent water-logging roots, aid air circulation and help improve nutrient uptake. Aerating your lawn will break through the thatch layer and help break up compaction levels through ground fracture.
Scarification should be carried out at least once a year to remove any organic matter such as thatch and moss formed around the base of your lawn. It also helps tidy up lateral growth. Thatch is your lawn’s upper layer that consists of decaying leaves and other plant materials, suffocating the roots.
Vert-cutting digs deeper than aerators and helps remove excess thatch and organic material around the plant's crown area. One of the most significant benefits of Vert-cutting is that it helps remove thatch build-up so your turf can absorb fertilizer and nutrients better.
The annual plan consists of 5 treatments a year plus two types of machine work. Aeration & Scarification. Treatments will be spaced out during the year on a season to season basis. We will give you about 7 days notice as to when we are coming. This is so you get plenty of time to make sure your lawn has been cut a few days before we arrive. Once the work has been carried out the operative will give you some guidelines as to do's and don'ts next. All waste is taken away.
We scarify your existing lawn to remove thatch and open up the air ways. Soil exchange We then cover the area in a high grade topsoil. Over-seed with Fescue grass seed (Red & Chewing). Then we add some granular feed to the soil. Turn around could be from 4 to 8 weeks. We would recommend this over turf every time.

The dreaded Leatherjacket. Leatherjackets have elongated tubular bodies, up to 30mm long and are greyish brown. They have no legs or obvious head. Lawns develop patches where the grass turns yellowish brown and often dies. This can be distinguished from similar effects caused by lawn diseases or adverse growing conditions by lifting the affected turf and finding leatherjackets in the surface layers of the soil.
Leatherjackets may also be revealed in lawns by soaking with water and covering with material impervious to light, such as black polythene. The following day if leatherjackets are the problem, large numbers of grubs should be found on the lawn surface under the cover.
We can treat this issue. See Chafer Grub section for treatments.
Chafer grubs are creamy coloured, about 15mm (0.6”) in length with distinct legs (unlike vine weevils). Chafer beetles emerge from lawns and lay eggs, which hatch into grubs feeding. They burrow deeper for winter and lie dormant before surfacing in spring to emerge as beetles.
Biological control: You can buy pathogenic nematodes, usually Heterorhabditis bacteriophora, which attack the larvae by infecting them with a fatal bacterial disease. These microscopic animals can be watered into the lawn when the ground is moist and soil temperature range between 12-20ºC (55-68ºF).
We can help eradicate this pest using nematodes. Beneficial nematodes kill the insects and pests in your lawn by entering their bodies through any openings that they find, or by boring through the body wall. Once they have done this, the nematodes release their unique bacteria that infects and kills the insect within 36-48 hours.
There are numerous Lawn Diseases and Disorders that can affect grass. The picture you see here is Red-Thread Laetisaria fuciformis common on swards of low fertility, especially late Summer and Autumn, Fescues and Ryegrass particularly susceptible. We can spray for this. Dedicate is a contact and systemic fungicide for use in managed amenity turf at any time of the year. Anthracnose. Anthracnose is caused by a fungus and can strike at different times of the year, but can be managed when it occurs. This is a small list of some other diseases you may find.
All of these turf diseases and more can arrive on your lawn at different times of the year and with different degrees of severity. Although any turf disease or disorder can be looked at like the end of the world, it's not. Many treatments are available on the market to help aid these problems. If you think you have any of these then please get in touch. We can help you.
Hydrophobic soil occurs when a waxy residue builds up on the soil particles resulting in it repelling water rather than absorbing it. It is most common in sandy soils, dried out potting mix and soils containing unrotted organic matter. Wetting agents are a great quick fix but will not resolve the issue long term. Wetting agents work by breaking down waxy coatings as well as breaking the surface tension in the water making it easier to penetrate the soil.
Knowing more about your lawns growth pattern will help you sustain a healthy and lush lawn. Obviously soil content causes a variation in growth. Also things like drainage issues. Do you suffer from saturation in the winter or drought stress during the summer months. Shade causes less growth. Tall trees may be blocking sunlight. The list can go on. We can help you with these issues at Greenkeeper Lawn Care. Knowing the basic growth pattern will give you timing help, for example, when to seed, when to water, mowing etc. When you mow we always suggest little and often. This will help promote new growth. Feeding your lawn at the right times with the right granular fertilisers will also help promote growth. There are so many things you can do. Another great reason for having a professional greenkeeper to take care of this.
No question is ever silly and every day is a school day.
This chart will help you understand timings for your lawn care, weeding and dare we say..... pest control. Using this as a guide will help you understand issues you may be having and it will also help you with timing on jobs you carry out in your garden.
